IKEA Assembly, Done Properly

IKEA is its own engineering system, and that is why it gets its own page. Almost nothing in the range is held together by ordinary woodscrews - it is cam locks and dowels, numbered fitting bags, wooden pins that only go one way, and the kind of instruction booklet that never names a single part. Get a cam lock a quarter-turn short and the carcass looks fine on day one and racks by month three. Our team builds IKEA every week: PAX frames and the sliding-door tracks that have to be shimmed dead level, KALLAX cubes that go square or not at all, BESTÅ units hung off a suspension rail, MALM and HEMNES drawers that need the runners set right before the fronts go on. We know which models have a known awkward step, and we bring the tools IKEA does not put in the box.

Then there is the London reality of getting the boxes to the room. IKEA delivers to your door - not up three flights of a converted terrace, not through a narrow hallway, and not into the bedroom - and a single PAX or NORDLI carton is a genuine two-person lift. Walls bring their own problem: IKEA's supplied anti-tip kit covers most standard solid and hollow walls, but London homes are full of the awkward cases - dot-and-dab plasterboard with a deep cavity, lath and plaster, crumbly Victorian brick - where the standard plug needs swapping for a long-reach anchor or a proper toggle. We carry the right fixings for all three, move the boxes ourselves, build in the room the furniture is staying in, and flatten the packaging for recycling.

How do you price IKEA assembly?

Do you collect the furniture from IKEA for me?

Not as standard - we are an assembly service, and our team arrives to build what has already been delivered. IKEA's own delivery almost always works out cheaper than paying a two-person team to queue at Wembley, Croydon or Greenwich and load a van. If you are genuinely stuck, ask when you get in touch: we can sometimes quote a collection separately, but we need the article numbers and pickup store first - a flat-pack PAX or NORDLI will not fit in a car.

I designed my wardrobe in the IKEA planner. Can you quote from the code?

Yes, and it is the best way to get an accurate picture of the job. Send the PAX or BESTÅ planner code, or the PDF IKEA emails you, and we can see exactly how many frames, doors, drawers and interior fittings are in the build. Two frames with hinged doors is a very different day to four frames with sliding doors and twelve interior fittings - with the code we can tell you the realistic time on site before you book.

What happens if a part is missing or damaged in the box?

It is common enough that we plan for it. We carry spare cam locks, dowels and common fixings, so a missing screw does not stop the build. If something structural is missing or damaged - a cracked panel, a bent drawer runner - we build everything we can, leave the item safe and stable, and give you the part name so you can claim the free replacement from IKEA. We then come back to finish that item once the part arrives.

I bought my IKEA furniture secondhand. Will you still build it?

Yes, with one honest caveat. Secondhand IKEA has usually been flat-packed a second time, and cam locks, dowel holes and chipboard edges do not always survive that - plus the instructions and fittings bag are often gone. Send photos of the panels and the bag of fittings before you book so we can tell you what is realistic. We will build it properly and anchor it safely, but our 12-month warranty covers our workmanship, not the condition of parts that were already worn.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice. With less notice, the booking deposit may be non-refundable because the slot is reserved.

Do not risk your furniture with random gig-workers. Every build is done by TaskMan of London's own DBS-checked, full-time team.
