IKEA KLEPPSTAD Wardrobe Assembly in London
IKEA KLEPPSTAD Wardrobe Assembly in London
The KLEPPSTAD is IKEA's budget wardrobe range — white paper-foil finish, 55 cm deep, 176 cm tall — and its shallow footprint makes it one of the highest-volume wardrobes TaskMan of London assembles across the capital. It looks simple on the box, but the hinged versions hide the two jobs that eat evenings: nailing three separate back panels on square, and adjusting every clip-on hinge (nine of them on the 3-door) so the full-height doors actually line up.
Our DBS-checked, insured team builds it, levels it on London's rarely level floors, sets the door gaps, and anchors it to the wall as standard — IKEA's own printed warning says it must be secured against tip-over, and we treat that as part of the job, not an extra. Every build is covered by our 12-month workmanship warranty.
Send us photos on WhatsApp of the spot, the wall behind it and your skirting, and we confirm everything before you book — which variant you have, how long it will take, and what your wall needs for the anchoring.

- KLEPPSTAD wardrobe with 3 doors, white, 117x55x176 cm — article 004.417.58 (verified live on ikea.com/gb/en, 18 Aug 2026)
- KLEPPSTAD wardrobe with sliding doors, white, 117x55x176 cm — article 904.372.38 (verified live on ikea.com/gb/en, 18 Aug 2026)
- Accessory: KLEPPSTAD shelf, white, 76x50 cm — article 204.495.17 (verified live on ikea.com/gb/en, 18 Aug 2026; IKEA states it fits both the 2-door and 3-door wardrobes)
KLEPPSTAD is not being discontinued. IKEA's October 2024 newsroom announcement concerns the MALM and HEMNES chests of drawers being replaced (by the STORKLINTA and GULLABERG ranges) by the end of 2026 — it does not cover the wider MALM or HEMNES families, and it does not mention KLEPPSTAD at all. All three KLEPPSTAD wardrobes and the extra shelf were live on IKEA UK's site as of 18 August 2026. As always, check current stock at your local store before ordering.
How long IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe assembly takes
TaskMan of London working estimates, confirmed after WhatsApp photos: 2-door hinged 75–110 minutes; 3-door hinged 90–150 minutes (the nine hinges and final door alignment are what push it long); sliding-door version 110–160 minutes. Add 15–30 minutes for wall anchoring into masonry or awkward walls. These are estimates from our own jobs, not IKEA figures.
Difficulty: moderate. Long builds are exactly what we are set up for — message us and we will confirm everything before you book.
Where IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe builds go wrong
The parts of this build that cost people an afternoon:
- The hinge mounting plates (part 109221 — nine on the 3-door, six on the 2-door) are fitted in step 1, while the side and partition panels are still flat on the floor, three plates to each panel. The step-1 callouts of 3x and 6x refer to two fitting orientations of the plates, not to different counts on different panels. The panels are distinguished only by their hole patterns (manual page 9) — fit the plates to the wrong panel, or skip the step, and you are part-dismantling a finished carcass to redo it.
- The connecting bolts (part 100214 — 16 on the 3-door, 12 on the 2-door) must finish exactly flush: the manual's step-11 inset explicitly crosses out an over-driven bolt. The panels are thin budget particleboard; over-tighten with the hex key and the thread strips, and a stripped hole in this board cannot simply be re-tightened.
- The back is three separate fibreboard sheets fixed with roughly 58 nails on the 3-door (1+1+12+44 across steps 21–24). Once nailed, the carcass shape is locked in. If it is not checked square before nailing, the full-height doors will never align, whatever you do at the hinges. IKEA supplies a small plastic wedge (part 105494) used as a nail guide at the panel joins — it is not a spare part to discard.
- Door alignment is the last 20 per cent of the job and the part people ring us about: clip-style hinges (nine on the 3-door, six on the 2-door), each with height, depth and side adjustment (manual step 35). Adjusting hinges before levelling the base is wasted effort — on London's out-of-level floors we pack the plinth level first, then set the door gaps.
- The wardrobe is built lying on its back and tipped upright by two people (pictured in the manual at step 25). The 3-door needs about 190 cm of clear floor length next to its final position, and its 117 cm width to walk around while you work.
- The wall brackets are marked in pencil with the wardrobe in position (step 26), then the wardrobe is moved, the wall drilled, and the unit slid back — the slotted brackets take up the tolerance. Drilling first by measurement alone usually misses.
- Two visually similar screw pairs are easy to swap: the manual crosses out the wrong screw at both the base bracket (step 7/19, use 109041) and the top wall-bracket fixing (step 31, use 109049) — the longer screw punches through the thin panel.
- Build it on the rug or the flattened box, as the manual shows — the paper-foil finish on this range marks readily on bare floorboards.
Safety and wall fixing
This item must be secured to the wall. We fit the restraint as part of the job and will not leave it standing loose.
- IKEA's printed warning in the manual reads: "Serious or fatal crushing injuries can occur from furniture tip-over", and it instructs that the furniture must always be secured to the wall using the tip-over restraints. We treat anchoring as part of the job, not an optional extra.
- Two-person lift: the 3-door arrives as three packages — the heaviest package 31.7 kg and the longest 181 cm — and the assembled unit must be tipped upright by two people (as pictured in the manual at step 25).
- The manual's step-31 warning pictogram crosses out leaning a ladder into or climbing the open carcass when fixing the top brackets — we work from a step ladder beside the unit.
- Before drilling for the wall brackets we check for hidden cables and pipes — standard practice for our DBS-checked, insured team, especially either side of light switches and sockets.
IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe assembly in London homes
Verified package data from IKEA UK (18 Aug 2026): the 3-door ships as three packages — 56x7x173 cm at 31.70 kg, 47x5x174 cm at 19.00 kg, and 56x5x181 cm at 27.75 kg (about 78 kg of packages in total); the 2-door as two packages at 24.50 kg and 30.74 kg, both 181 cm long; the sliding-door as three packages of 25.4–26.5 kg. In practice that means: the 181 cm boxes will not fit in most hatchbacks, they do fit in standard lifts on the diagonal but not always in small period lifts, and the 31.7 kg box is a genuine two-person carry on the winding stairs of Victorian conversions. Inside the flat, the build needs about 190 cm x 120 cm of clear floor because the wardrobe is assembled on its back and tipped upright by two people — worth knowing in a box room where the bed may need shifting first. At 55 cm deep and 176 cm tall it clears standard ceilings easily when tipped up, and its shallow depth is exactly why it is one of the highest-volume wardrobes TaskMan of London assembles across London within the M25.
Before we arrive
- WhatsApp us photos of the spot where it will stand, the wall behind it (including any sockets or switches), and your skirting board — we confirm everything before you book.
- Clear a floor area of roughly 2 m x 1.2 m next to the final position: the wardrobe is assembled lying down and tipped upright.
- Tell us your wall type if you know it (plasterboard, brick, lath and plaster). IKEA states the supplied screws and plugs suit most solid and hollow walls; we bring alternatives for the awkward cases.
- Have the packages in or next to the room where the wardrobe will live — the 3-door's flat-packs run up to 181 cm long, and the heaviest package is 31.7 kg.
- Keep all packaging until we have checked the panels: the white paper-foil surfaces on this range chip easily in transit, and unmarked boxes make IKEA replacements straightforward.
- Keep children and pets out of the room during the build — there are around 58 loose nails and small fittings on the floor at the midpoint.
IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe assembly FAQs
How much does KLEPPSTAD wardrobe assembly cost in London?
We do not publish prices on this page, because the honest answer depends on which KLEPPSTAD you have (2-door, 3-door or sliding), how level your floor is, and what wall we are anchoring into. Send photos on WhatsApp of the spot and the wall behind it and we confirm everything before you book — no on-the-day surprises. Wall anchoring is always included, never an extra.
Do you fix it to the wall?
Yes, always. IKEA's own warning on this product says it must be securely anchored because of the tip-over risk, and the fixing kit (two slotted brackets, screws, washers and plugs that IKEA states suit most solid and hollow walls) is in the box. We check your wall type, drill, and fit the brackets as part of the job, and it is covered by our 12-month workmanship warranty.
I built mine myself and the doors will not line up — can you just fix that?
Yes, this is our most common KLEPPSTAD call-out. The 3-door carries nine clip-style hinges and the 2-door six, each adjustable for height, depth and side gap. Often the real cause is a carcass that was nailed slightly out of square or a base sitting on an uneven floor, so we level and pack the plinth first, then set the hinges. It is usually a short visit — send a photo of the doors on WhatsApp and we will confirm.
Will the packages fit up my stairs?
The 3-door arrives as three flat packages: the longest is 56x5x181 cm at 27.75 kg, and the heaviest is 56x7x173 cm at 31.7 kg. The 2-door is two packages up to 30.74 kg, both 181 cm long. They are long and floppy rather than bulky, so they manage most London staircases and lifts, but tight winders in period conversions need two people. Tell us on WhatsApp if access is awkward and we will plan for it.
Which KLEPPSTAD should I choose for a small room?
All three are 55 cm deep — genuinely shallower than most wardrobes, which is why the range suits London box rooms. Hinged doors need clearance in front to open; the sliding-door version needs none, which matters if the bed sits close. The 2-door is 79 cm wide; both 117 cm versions need about 190 cm of clear floor to assemble lying down.
Is KLEPPSTAD being discontinued like MALM and HEMNES?
No. IKEA's October 2024 announcement covers the MALM and HEMNES chests of drawers being replaced by new ranges by the end of 2026 — not the whole MALM and HEMNES families, and not KLEPPSTAD. All three KLEPPSTAD wardrobes were live on IKEA UK's site as of 18 August 2026. As always, we recommend checking current stock at your local store before ordering.
Can you add the extra shelves at the same time?
Yes. IKEA lists the KLEPPSTAD shelf (article 204.495.17) as fitting both the 2-door and 3-door wardrobes; IKEA does not state a maximum number per wardrobe. If the shelves are on site when we arrive, fitting them adds only a few minutes and rarely changes what we confirmed on WhatsApp.
