TV Wall Mounting London — Brick, Stud & Dot-and-Dab Specialists

Mounting a TV in London is not the same as doing it anywhere else in the UK. The city's housing stock ranges from pre-war Victorian terraces with solid brick walls to brand-new high-rises with lightweight dot-and-dab plasterboard — and each one demands a completely different approach.

Period properties: Chelsea, Kensington, Islington

Older London homes typically have solid brick or plaster-on-brick walls. These hold weight well, but drilling into them requires an SDS hammer drill and the right masonry fixings. The challenge is often hidden pipework and Victorian-era electrical wiring that doesn't follow modern routes. Our installers use cable-detection scanners before every drill point.

New builds: Canary Wharf, Stratford, Greenwich high-rises

Modern London apartments almost always use dot-and-dab plasterboard — a thin plasterboard sheet glued to the blockwork with blobs of adhesive, leaving a gap behind. Standard wall plugs that come in the box with your Samsung Frame, LG OLED or Sony Bravia bracket will pull straight out of this wall type under load. We use GripIt and Corefix anchors that grip behind the plasterboard and spread the load safely. For heavier TVs (55″+), we may toggle through to the blockwork behind for a belt-and-braces fix.

Metal stud partitions: office conversions, loft extensions, Shoreditch live/work units

Metal stud walls are increasingly common in London flat conversions and co-living spaces. The plasterboard is screwed to thin steel C-channels rather than glued to masonry, so the stud spacing dictates where you can fix. We locate studs with a magnetic detector, mount directly into the steel where possible, and use heavy-duty spring toggles for positions between studs. Result: a rock-solid mount on what looks like a flimsy wall.

Concrete walls: ex-council blocks, Barbican, Thamesmead

Concrete is the strongest mounting surface but the hardest to drill. We use diamond-tipped SDS bits and heavy-duty Hilti or Fischer anchors rated for the weight. Cable channelling in concrete is also possible but takes longer — we'll factor that into your quote.

Why the fixings in the box aren't enough

Brackets from Samsung, LG, Sony and other manufacturers ship with generic fixings designed for solid walls. In London, at least half of all residential walls are hollow plasterboard. Hanging a 20 kg TV on a standard rawl plug in dot-and-dab is a recipe for a cracked screen.
